Plants ideas for pot by front door ?

Pot by my front door and want to put some plants in that create a bit of height and are pretty any ideas?

OP, is it sunny, shady, exposed, sheltered? That affects which plants to suggest.

I like a bit of folklore myself, and have a small Rowan tree by the front door to keep the fairies away. Destructive little bastards, fairies.

A small bay tree?

Depends if it’s in sun or shade.

We have a very shady front porch so I have a shade loving acer and two silvery ferns. Flowers are trickier in the shade.

Agree with a Rowan,or something fragrant like mint or lemon balm.

My Fatsia Japonica does well in a large pot, it is very tolerant and stately looking.

I've just planted up some geraniums in the porch box planter. Is it a sunny spot and how big is the pot? Those hot lips plants are popular.

Something that smells good! Daphne would be lovely and you can get variants for shade or sun.
