What shall I do with this tree?

After some advice as quite conflicted. I have a green gauge tree - I want to say mirrabelle, but pretty sure that's encanto?!

It shades pretty much my whole garden. I would like to thin it out to allow a bit more dappled light through.

It's been pollarded before, which I felt was a bit too brutal and which I think was a mistake in terms of its overall shape. It's been left 2yrs since.

I could cut off all the thin whippy shoots myself. But worried I'm just encouraging it to shoot even more.

Help?! Please!

Is the fruit nice? If not, I would take it out. It's a vigorous tree which is too big for its space if it's shading your whole garden.

No the fruit is minimal, like a handful at most. I wasn't really thinking to take it out completely though.

you need a saw and take the branch back to the main trunk and its main branches. Do two or three at a time. I’m no expert but have had trees spoilt be enthusiastic ‘gardeners’ chopping the ends off branches which results in more twigs .

I mean 2 or three a year

Do you mean take them back to where i they were pollarded?
