Does anyone know what this is? It just appeared in the border this year and neither of us have a clue what it is. We don’t recall planting anything and it just seems to have popped up from nowhere. It’s surprisingly large.

Common milkweed according to my plant app

No idea but it has a very pleasing pattern when you look straight down on it 😂

Great Mullein?

I think swamp milkweed seems to be the closest I can find - the leaves are quite wide and honestly it is really big! Doesn’t look like any native plant I’ve ever seen before.

We live next to a (crappy, built-up) nature reserve with some scrub land and native trees and bushes not too far away, but this is weirdly exotic looking.

Great Mullein?

The leaves are a little narrow for this plus they are smooth, no little white hairs. I’m really stumped.

Intriguing...I'm not familiar with milkweeds so looked it up, seems they have wind-blown seeds like thistles so maybe yours parachuted in from another garden.

It looks fancy, so it’s staying! Plus we got it for free so I suppose it’s a win all round. It certainly looks happy. Maybe if and when the flowers come all will be revealed.
