How do I stop animals digging up my bulbs?

I usually buy plants as opposed to bulbs as animals often dig them up. I've however been gifted some bulbs and would like to plant them. I live in a wooded area so squirrels everywhere! Any tips would be great.

Put a square of wire netting above the bulbs but below the surface. Might need to be quite strong for squirrels. Bury the bulbs as deep as they can cope with

Shoot the squirrels.

chicken wire over newly dug earth is usefu.

Also cayenne pepper or chilli-pepper spray on any areas / plants etc that squirrels might damage. they don't like to get it on their paws or face. but it washes away in the rain so you have to keep re-applying.

On Gardeners world this week, a chap said he put down hot chilli powder and that put them off. Worth a try.

Those bastard grey squirrels are the bane of my existence!!! Chicken wire across all of my pots - it's the only way.
