Lilac Bush

Hi I'm looking for advice please. I grew up in Canada and have wonderful memories of highly scented bluey- lavender coloured lilac bushes everywhere all spring and summer long. I now live in the UK and I'm desperate to plant one of these bushes in the corner of my back garden. Trouble is, I can't find them here. I don't know what I'm looking for as they all seem to be trees here and are too pink.
They were definitely bushes in Canada, spread out like the way a peony bush does.
Could someone with real gardening knowledge point me in the right direction to get an actual bush with the dark lilac colour please. Thank you so much!

Ceanothus is sometimes called California Lilac here in the UK. It's flowers are more blue that syringa, the lilac more commonly found her.

Also there are lots of different syringa lilacs in a range of colours from white to deep pink with blue tone. We have a low growing version called Miss Kim.

Do you happen to have a photo of one?
