Clay lawn help

We have a patch of grass (north Scotland) that DH loves so I can't dig it all up or plant tall wildflowers in it as he keeps it short however the ground is clay soil and often waterlogged (French drains have improved this slightly) we have a dog and a combination of all of the above means bare muddy patches.

I throw some grass seed down each year to try and fill them in but it's never left alone long enough to sprout!

The 'lawn' is full of daisies, white clover and moss that actually helps keep it looking green

Is there any other flowering plants that can survive these conditions (DH keeps it under 2 inches) that I could add to help the bare areas?

Have a greenhouse and a conspirator that will help me grow plants from seed for sneak planting Grin
