Comfrey and nettle fertiliser

I've never tried making fertiliser from nettles or comfrey, as I've got some of both at the moment I was wondering if it's worth doing? Is there any reason not to use a mix of the two? (Ive only got one bucket with a lid).

I think you can use the two. No reason why not.

It bloody stinks when it's done so when you come to decant it out of the bucket, wear old clothes.

Even a few drops on you leaves you spending the day smelling of cow muck Grin

It is a great fertiliser though!

What are you fertilising?

I don't do the bucket thing, I put a mix of nettles and comfrey into an old plastic milk bottle container with holes made in it, and put the whole thing into the water butt that I water the tomatoes and peppers with. Then it acts like a tea bag, and no diluting needed as it redilutes when the water butt fills back up.

When I have plants that I water by irrigation, I chop the nettles and comfrey up and put it round the plants to die back and feed them that way. The irrigtion sits over the mounds of chopped up nettles and comfrey and thus washes the nutrients down to the plant.

What are you fertilising?

I don't know... is it best avoided on some plants?

I made some from nettles once, the smell was unbelievable. I won't be doing it again
