I'm helping a friend who lives there - I live a long way from her. She would like to grow azaleas. I can give her general advice, but I don't know the details of her garden, although I've seen photos. It would be a nice sunny but sheltered spot.

Can anyone tell me whether azaleas will thrive there, ie is the soil suitable?

What about camellias?

If you'd rather stay anonymous, I'd welcome Dms thank you

She needs to test her soil, it's easy to do with a testing kit. She could also grow azalea in large pots with ericaceous compost.

The Eastend will be mostly clay and alkaline. I am not far from there and also have clay soil but still manage to grow azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias very well by using an ericaceous compost and occasionally adding acidifier to the soil.

That’s really useful, thank you
