Hi,

I have decided to plant my first ever veg/herb garden. I have a small garden to work with, but I am absolutely clueless on what I do do get stared.

Can seasoned gardeners plaese give me some tips on where I start from? What do I do, buy, when do I start, etc? I really know nothing about gardening.

Thanks!!!

Howdy there

I put up a post last week for a kids guide to gardening, and since i'm not really a greenfingers either, i found it realy useful - both my kids have gone crazy for it! It's called "growing vegetables is fun" and it has a big piccie of a boy on the front. It comes in a bag with 10 packs of seeds, so you can get started straight away. The more i've read it, the more it seems like you're learning a life skill and it tells you all the tools you'll need and when to start etc

It's in the supermarkets (I got mine from Tesco, but I saw it in Sainsburys on the weekend) and there's a website too www.growingisfun.co.uk where i think you can buy it directly

Hi lotus,
I am also starting out. Just spent the day digging. (or rather trying to). Half the garden was covered in brambles. Dh cut them but the roots are still there. So I've been digging them up as best as I could.
I am planning to put some compost (or something) over the dug bits and make a bed. Then will start planting.

I guess that's the first thing for you to do also - make a bedding.

I've been looking at this page. It's based in australia - but it has a good page on vegetable patch design.
