What is the going hourly rate for a gardener these days?

Depends on experience, I live se and one neighbour pays her gardener £15 to cut grass every 2 weeks , takes him 45 mins and he goes full ,£15 . Another neighbour pays £40 ph but she has hedges, weeds, paths, done, also he gets rid of cuttings and she has dogs, not sure if she always cleans up think he comes once a month.

And all gardeners are not the same - mil has a gardener who cuts the grass I think he charges £16/hour but he knows nothing about gardening - and that's just fine for what she wants him to do - she points and he does.
My friends have a gardening business and they are all about plant care - they don't weed or cut grass - I think they charge £40/hour

@Curtainsforus I’m considering setting up myself gardening. Can I ask what experience your friends had before they started out? I’m trying to work out if I need formal qualifications versus just a love of gardening!

I didn’t think they had any - they did an RHS course and set up a business, one partner asked if anyone needed their services on the local Facebook group and they were inundated. She is very happy with the outcome.
