How much shelter does a plum tree need?

Just that. Got a sunny spot with a fence behind it but wouldn’t say it was that sheltered.

We get howling winds here and mine is fine. There is a fence behind it but it’s not sheltered at all. In fact when we moved in, the spot where my plum now is had a couple of evergreen trees that had been blown down and were growing whilst lying flat because it’s so windy!

my aunt had a plum tree, and i remember, 50 years ago, the prolific amount of plums on the ground. it was in a corner at the bottom of the garden, lots of large evergreen trees near it, she lived somewhere near London !
