Anyone knowledgeable about dahlias? Should I water these?

Hello! Am a relatively newbie gardener trying my hand at dahlias this year.

I've been following a grow along on Instagram and 2 out of my 7 tubers have now sprouted (woo) so apparently I need to water them a little, but not too much.

Could anyone elaborate on how much I actually need to water to achieve this? Guessing that pouring the watering can over them will make them too soggy, could I use a spray bottle or would that not be enough?

Help desperately appreciated!

I give mine a good watering and make sure they’re not standing in water. I check how dry they are by pushing my finger down into the compost. Only water when getting dry compost.

Give them a good water, after which the pot will feel heavier, then leave till the top couple of centimetres is dry before watering again. If the pot feels light, they definitely need watering.

make sure there are drainage holes in the pot base and don’t let them stand in water.

Thank you both so very much - I will give them a good water today 😊
