Garden Lawn removal/ideas

Hi everyone,

We are not long in our new home after spending thousands renovating our old garden. It made me so happy looking out to our beautiful garden but it was unfortunately time to move. We just don’t have the funds to pay someone to do our new garden just now.
However the back lawn is constantly waterlogged, grows differently all over with patches and is an eyesore.
It really makes me feel down when I look out the back, it’s just horrible looking. Any ideas on how to tackle this that are quick and cheap solutions (is that ever an option for a garden) to do by ourselves until we can afford to do it properly?
I was thinking of taking on a section this year and then we can take on a new part next year type thing.

Thanks

EVERYTHING is waterlogged right now! O wouldn't make and drastic changes until the weather improves and things dry out. It's been raining constantly since Oct here

If there isn't a path through the garden get some stepping stones and lay a path. Don't walk on the grass only the path. Reassess the lawn in late summer and if it's still terrible, autumn is a good time to reseed.

But do consider carefully if you really want a lawn long term. DH won't let me get rid of ours but if he wasn't wedded to it id make a wide path with plants on the rest of it. You can cut flower beds out of the lawn and make them bigger every year as the plants grow.
