Fence colour options

We have a fairly small garden which was a blank canvas so getting going with the planting looking more established. The fencing is fairly tired looking but serviceable. The previous owner painted two of the fences black.

They are now in need of repainting but can't decide what colour to go for. Would you re do it in black or would something like a dark brown cover it?

Black, really makes plants pop!

I agree with @onanotherday - black or anthracite grey helps to 'push' the fences back whereas a pale colour would make the garden look smaller.

That’s surprised me! I assumed the opposite.

Outdoors dark colours recede from the eye, indoors light colours recede.

I did not know that either. Thank you.
