Heat Mat

Been thinking about getting one. Currently just start things off in propagator trays with plastic covers placed in well lit part of room.

How do you find using the heat mat?

I find them really useful for indoor/windowsill sowing. Especially for hotter seedlings like chillis.

I tend to start all seeds off on the heat mat and then, depending on their hardiness, move them off the mat either immediately after sproouting or when they are a bit bigger and more robust.

They mean I can sow more in a shorter space of time, because all seeds germminate more quickly. I often wonder about some kind of dampening off when I take them off the heat but, so far, I've never had any issues.
