Slugs eating primroses

I planted a row of ten primroses recently and five have now been eaten. It is the pink petals that have been eaten, and the middle yellow coloured part and the green leaves have been left.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this happening if I buy more?

Sounds more like birds than slugs. Try building a defensive wigwam with twigs.

Oh I just assumed it was slugs.

The flowers are in a small border out the front, the only flowers I have in my front garden as it is otherwise covered in gravel. I would prefer not to cover the plants up but thank you for replying I do appreciate it.

Try different coloured primroses? Yellow is usually a favourite, but you could go for red or blue?

Somethings eaten my hyacinths this year. They never normally get attacked.

And all my cute little Tete a Tetes have had their flowers attacked by something. Never happened before.

Yes, my hyacinths are looking sorry for themselves too

I once watched sparrows pull off and rip up all the yellow flowers on some primroses. They left the bits where they dropped, the vandals.

I've also seen starlings take young plant growth for their nests, but they usually go for herbs rather than flowers.

Slugs were at my daffs too - caught some of them at it!
