Are these hydrangeas?

Is this a hydrangea or could it be something else?

It's our first spring in our new garden so I'm trying to figure out what is where. It's a big mass of overgrown grass and a jumble of shrubs and trees on either side. There are no old flower heads so I'm not sure about this one.

Definitely not hydrangea, possibly weigela, but I’d be inclined to think the pp is correct.

Thank you both! That's a relief. I was hoping to remove as much as possible and start the back garden from scratch. Having spent £70 on hydrangeas for the front, I would have felt stuck if that's what they were.
