Clearing a small bed and this strong rooted plant, a number of them, along the fence is difficult to take out.

They have purple flowers.

Can anyone identify?

Looks like a Vinca Major .

It’s really hard to get it out from near the fence as the roots are quite invasive. Looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me today!

Vinca major or periwinkle - they are good for ground cover.

The good thing is that the roots don't go deep, and they are nice as ground cover in out-of-the-way places such as at the back of the border where not much else grows.
