Any tips on getting rid of these from my bag of compost? It's the first year I remember seeing lots. Will the larvae damage seedling roots? I want to start tomato and other seedlings soon but might have to try in a plastic box outside so the flies don't come into the house!

Going to get some of those sticky things that can be pushed into the soil. And laying some compost out on a plastic bag to dry out so the adults might fly off (won't stop eggs that might be in it though). Thank you.

The larvae will most definitely damage roots of seedlings

Microwave (in batches) before you use it. Couple of minutes on full blast per bowl full. If you have an appropriate thermometer, 93c is what you want to achieve.

(Obviously, wait for it to cool...)
