Is my magnolia dead?

I've got a very small/young magnolia tree at the back of the garden that I'm assuming the previous owners planted (we've lived here around 18 months). Last spring it had lots of beautiful pink flowers.

So far this year, a couple of buds but definitely no flowers. Yesterday I noticed a magnolia tree down the road in full bloom and thought... does this mean mine is dead? If so, what have I done wrong? I am not green fingered at all but I was looking forward to seeing the pretty flowers!

There are a number of different varieties, and they don't all bloom at the same time. So fingers crossed.

Mine is showing no signs of life yet either.

Ours is not flowering yet and it's definitely not dead 😊

A different aspect can lead to different timing in flowering, even within the same variety. Also a younger plant may have a shorter flowering season.

I have two identical magnolias, planted at the same time. One is covered in buds about to open, the other hardly has any yet.

Thank you all for your helpful and reassuring comments! The magnolia down the road is huge and in front of the house whereas ours is tiny and at the back, so hopefully that will explain the discrepancy. Fingers crossed...

Ours is still in bud, DH did move it two years ago though. But it is healthy and in a better position now. Give it a few weeks OP.

Neither of mine are flowering but they are late bloomers.

Good news, it's flowering! The flowers are darker pink than I remember and definitely darker than the one up the road so it must be a different variety. It's so pretty!

Aww lovely update, ours is just coming into bloom, isn’t nature amazing, how a garden can change in a few days.

Magnolias are just stunning, aren't they? This is mine right now, brightening up the grey day. 🙂Glad yours is blooming at last OP.

I was so excited when I got home today. My magnolia has finally bloomed! I've had a few flowers opening over the last week but I was worried the rest would rot away. It's our first year in this house and I've been waiting to see it in bloom.
