😩 I'm petrified of them!! Not sure where it's come from but a couple of weeks ago I let the dog out late one night for a wee and thought what I saw was a frog on the patio .. ran inside quick!! Told myself over and over I was seeing things. Just let the dog out and there it is again, no disputing it this time.. this has freaked me out more than you could ever imagine. Help.

Nothing to be scared of, it just wants a kiss.

You put this in the gardening chat, but you aren't a gardener are you?

LoveToRun866 · 09/03/2024 23:46

Aaw, i miss the frog in my garden, i hope it comes back in the Spring.
It seems too early for frogs to be active, it's still cold (up North where i am).
Not wishing to freak you out OP but are you sure it wasn't a rat?

SevenSeasOfRhye · 09/03/2024 23:47

Is there anyone who could rehome it for you? Just need someone who isn't frightened of them to pop it into a bucket and take it into their garden. I used to rehome a lot from the roadside where they often got run over to our garden pond as a child, then as the year rolled on there was the fun of seeing them mating and tadpoles appearing.

DiscoBeat · 09/03/2024 23:47

I love them! I don't see frogs that often but we get a lot of toads. I always have to pick then up for a cuddle!

citrinetrilogy · 09/03/2024 23:51

They eat slugs and snails, and help protect your plants from these pests.

Your fear is irrational.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 09/03/2024 23:51

@rockingbird , I really feel for you I’m terrified of spiders. It doesn’t matter how much I tell myself I’m not being logical I’m still terrified. That’s the thing with phobias, they’re an illogical fear.
I’m so delighted when the frogs and toads come to visit but if my garden was full of tarantulas I wouldn’t leave the house.
I could attempt to tell you the frogs and toads are so much smaller than you and are much more frightened of you but that never helps me.
Sending you an understanding embrace. X

I'm in the south and for the last couple of weeks our frogs have been out and about. I had to save one that was trapped in a flowerpot. I say me, I mean my dh 😂

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/03/2024 00:17

Lucky you! It will eat all your slugs.

FictionalCharacter · 10/03/2024 03:48

Petrified 🙄 Unless this is is a genuine phobia, in which case you could get treatment, you’re being really silly to be frightened of a harmless creature.
It will hop away and spend most of its time hiding.

fuckingbastard · 10/03/2024 03:51

We have one in our garden. It will leave you alone. Do not worry.

rockingbird · 10/03/2024 07:33

Wow, I didn't expect to wake up to such awful comments. Terrified is exactly how I feel so yes a real phobia!! I mow the lawn and like flowers - hence me using the gardening section, if I'm not worthy of being here I'll fuck off. Happy Mother's Day to you all - even the nasty bitches.

Of course toads won’t hurt you but neither will spiders and you won’t see anyone move quicker than me if a spider is about haha, I’ve even moved away from a wall with a spider on so quickly I left my child behind haha, I was out the room and she was just sitting there looking at me like WTF! It is irrational but a fear is a fear. I don’t mind frogs and toads but my DH is also petrified of them. He does the spiders, I do the frogs. Find someone who is your opposite OP and then you can always rely on someone to rescue you lol.

Seriously? I saw only one comment which could be construed as awful.

Find the naturalists society in your area and explain your problem. They should know someone happy to take frogs and toads away. Frogs and toads are in serious decline, frogs have declined to less than a third of their population over the last 30 years, and frogs by nearly a fifth in just 4 years.

Keep your garden scrupulously tidy, short grass, avoid ground cover, bag up leaves and take to the tip, don’t have a compost heap. It will be a sterile area for wildlife, and should be unattractive for amphibians.

If you continue to see frogs, ask your GP about therapy to rid yourself of the phobia
