Salix Flamingo Tree is it dead

I keep cutting the dead ends off but then they turn brown again. Photos attached.

How am I supposed to prune it?

My wisteria is basically just a stick and the end is brown.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The first picture does have buds on it.
The other 2 look ok,

If the tree/wisteria is the shape you want, leave it alone now and stop snipping bits of. They are both deciduous (leaves fall off in winter) and yes will look like sticks until the buds swell up and turn into leaves.

When you trim, the ends of the twigs do turn brown, its normal.

Why are you pruning them now?

Leave it until the end of March.

Loads of things are budding already in my garden but not the flamingo yet. I'd leave well alone for a couple of weeks.

I stupidly thought the ends couldn't grow if they were dead.

There was long whispy black stalks on the end less than a mm wide.

It has buds and leaves coming, so no it's not dead.

Have you looked up how to prune it?

The long wispy black stalks sound dead and fine to remove them. But when you prune, the plant will callous over the cut end and maybe die back a bit. So if you then cut that bit off, it has to callous over again.

Following as I think mine is dead. Bought 2 about 2 years ago and planted them in large pots. One grew back very feebly last summer, despite feeding it. Looks completely dead now. Will give it a few weeks and see if anything happens. Wondering if they don't grow well in pots.

DS very efficiently killed one off in the ground
