Shrub border to soften driveway

We are just in the process of having a new driveway put in and it looks enormous and very stark. It’s tarmac with a dark brick border.

The garden is in woodland. This driveway goes along the east side of the house so gets morning sun.

Id like to plant up a shrubbery border to soften the edges. What would you plant? Generally things like camellias and rhododendrons do well in our soil so they are potentially on the list

Both of those can get rather large. Azelas like similar conditions and stay more compact.

It’s a really big area (triple garage) so big is probably needed to look in proportion. There’s about 8m of lawn next to the driveway and then trees

Sounds like you have acid soil.

Hydrangeas and Japanese maples could do well there.
