Ideas for patio tubs

I am unfortunately a bit clueless about these things. My shed has fallen apart so I am making a little feature corner in its place. There is a maple (I think) tree and I have a love seat that I will up cycle. I think a collection of pots would look nice - total of 6 in pairs or groups of 3. The spot is SE facing. I am thinking evergreen low maintenance and will add seasonal colour. Ideas please!

How big are the pots? The bigger they are the more low maintenance they are likely to be. Does the acer cast shade? If it doesn't, for low maintenance in pots it's hard to beat the mediterranean herbs - lavender, rosemary, sage and thyme. Lamb's ears is also very easy and has lovely soft leaves.
