Greenhouse in front garden

In the process of buying a new house with a lovely but small back garden - enough room for shed and playhouse but not much else. The front garden is just an area of lawn so I’m full of ideas. But would it be daft to put my greenhouse out the front surrounded by planting? Has anyone done anything similar?

Is the front garden enclosed by a wall/fence or open plan? If open plan I think it would look very strange. Check the deeds to make sure there isn’t a covenant of some kind that stops you from putting something there. Check the area to see if anyone else has done it?

What do other houses on the street have?

Yes you need planning to put a structure in front of the front elevation of the house. If anyone else has similar there is a prrsedence set and you will likely get it but if not I don't think you would be likely to get permission.

What about one of those green house cabinets instead? Lower chest type ones used for germinating? You could argue it was temporary/mobile as that is often the issues, they really don't like permanent structures built at the front.

I would worry about plants being stolen or the greenhouse being damaged by passers by. But I guess this depends on the area in which you live

Thanks everyone! Didn’t realise that about planning permission. Will have to make do with a mini greenhouse instead (first world problems lol)
