Shrub recommendation

Hello - I have a corner of my garden that needs a new shrub. The soil is very waterlogged throughout the winter. The area for the shrub gets a lot of sun. I would like an every green shrub with pretty flowers in the summer.

any ideas what to plant?

If it's waterlogged in winter and baked in the summer is a potted shrub out of the question?

It’s flower bed - and very bare at the moment. There is a hydrangea there and what I think is a butterfly bush. They flower well in the summer but it all looks very brown and sad now

Picking up on “it all looks very brown and sad now” have you considered one of the smaller willows? Coloured stems which come into their own in winter, “pussies” if you’re lucky. Cornus are also said to cope with waterlogging. You could try one of the coloured stem ones, eg “Midwinter Fire”, or you could google the conditions for Cornus kousa, which has long-lasting white flower-like bracts.

Ohh - I had not thought of a willow - thank you!

I have a Viburnum Tinus that is in a similar spot of my garden and is a good all rounder. It's actually flowering for a second time now.
