Starting a veg patch. What do I need?

Me and hubby recently moved into home with some land and he's taken an interest in starting a veg patch and gardening in general (not flowers, but veg)

It's not a standard English garden more like wilderness vibes.

Anyhoo, for Xmas I want to buy him some gardening tools /bits.

So far he has a wheelbarrow, rake, planters.

What can I get him???

Ps I know NOTHING about this stuff lol

The best weeder I have is this type
weeder

My mini mattock has also been well used getting through some tough wilderness.

gloves are always useful.

trug for lugging stuff about that doesn’t call for a wheelbarrow but a bucket isn’t quite right.

The best gift for me though would be a huge pile of compost and/or some well rotted manure. I would be thrilled!

oooh, how about a compost bin ? I mean this looks too small if you have a lot of garden, it soon fills up believe me! But you can get large 3 box systems if you have a lot of space.

My most used things are probably secateurs for cutting small things, and a trowel and a space for digging small/big things. Then a fork.

You'll need something for watering - watering can and/or hose. Have you seen outside tap? Or a water butt attached to a downpipe?

Seeds always fun to buy. Request the Sarah Raven catalogue for garden porn.

Obviously agree that the best, most romantic gift is a big bag of shite (manure).

Most of the stuff you need for a veg patch don't make great looking Christmas presents! Eg butterfly netting or manure!

Most people start seeds off in seed trays and put them in the greenhouse, and those plastic mini green houses are actually quite good of you get a reasonable quality one (around £50, don't bother getting much cheaper or much pricier)

Plus:
Secateurs
Watering can
Liquid seaweed/fancy plant food
A hoe (ho ho!) - but seriously a hoe, they're essential for weeding veg!
