You are so ahead of me - have not even thought about toms yet

BroccoliSpears · 14/03/2008 19:30

I'm having to be early this year - having a baby mid April.

when did you plant them what else has sprouted?
are they all the same batch, maybe duff?

three yeras ago i planted seeds early and had a baby in april. my poor old veggies, you may be very relieved not to have any tomatoes. you can always buy some plants in later.

Well, only about a week ago, but they're on a sunny windowsill and everything else is sprouting madly. Beans are 8 inches high already. Peas and sweetpeas going great. Even the sunflowers are a couple of inches.

Am prob being a bit impatient.

I saw no sign of my toms until at least a week. More at 10 days and they were all up 2 weeks after i sowed. That was in my heated propogator, which helped them along. I'd say they are on the way. 8" beans...

Pouring with rain here today. Spent all morning in the greenhouse sowing lots more lovely seeds.

Seeds up already (nothing 8"!) Tomatoes, Peppers, Nasturtiums, marigolds, sweet pea, rocket. Loads more sown in the last week, I love this time of year.

It's like Jack and the Beanstalk round here!

I still keep going and glaring at the tomatoes. Or rather, I glare at where the tomatoes aren't.

I'm tempted to do rocket this year. Lots of people have recommended I do.

Do it. Do it.

I'd definitly recommend rocket, really quick too. 3- 4 weeks from sowing its ready to pick (especially if your growing it in a green house)

Delicious just with parmasan, squirt of lemon juice and a shake of salt.

Rocket is great but best sown early - by the summer it starts to bolt . Every year I grow a really good mix called Spicy Leaf Mix - Suttons and T&M do a similar version. It has rocket in it plus lots of other nice leaves too. Comes up ina few weeks then you just cut and come again at least 3-4 times. It's lovely.

My two DCs were born at the end of April - really messes with veg gardening planning but I found the extra weight a big help when digging the beds over . This time I am due early / mid May so I guess I haven't really learnt my lesson.

The tomatoes are peeping through!

Only three pitiful little wee shoots mind, but they are NOT DEAD!
