Ornamental tree ideas for east facing garden

I'm looking for a couple ornamental trees to add screening and maturity to a fairly small east facing garden. It's currently a totally blank canvas but the house has been around for a few decades so the soil should be good. Rowan comes up in a few searches.

Yes, rowan would be nice, or maybe hawthorn with red flowers?

We have a Judas tree, which has unexpectedly taken off and is flowering really well after just a couple of years, and that is in a north-facing position.

Japaneses maples would do well and stay quite small. Do you know what your soil is like (clay, sandy, acid, alcali?) If you have good drainage and are in the south of the UK you could also try an olive in the sunniest bit.

I'm not sure on the soil type but I've seen the odd one in gardens near by so assume ascers will do ok. Really like the idea of hawthorn as well
