Why is my caladium dying? (Again!)

Please help!

This is the second plant this exact same thing has happened to. They thrive in the summer then get slowly unhappier and unhappier through the autumn.

In a light spot but out of direct summer sun. I've tried more water and less water. I just can't figure out where I've gone wrong.

Pic attached - all the leaves have got these brown patches forming at the centre. Any tips greatly appreciated.

Is that the same as an elephants ear? If so then they are very stroppy and don't like being looked at never mind moved. Mine loses leaves and slows down over winter anyway so I wouldn't worry too much at this time.of year as it should perk up again in spring. It tends to prefer underwatering than overwatering and really doesn't like being moved.

Ignore all advice if it isn't the same as elephants ear!

They die off in autumn/winter. Tender, tropical perennial so you may need to lift the tuber and store frost-free for winter.
