Posted on DIY but no responses so trying here, even though I'm no gardener!

I'm a non-gardener looking for some quick easy ideas to smarten up the front of our home. It's rented though so nothing permanent or too expensive. I'm clueless so would value any ideas!

If you're happy to water them, a couple of matching smart pots either side of the front garden with matching evergreen plants - perhaps bay or similar - would look good. It's not cheap, but big pots do tend to look better, and they'll hold water better too.

Thank you. What's the watering commitment like on one of those?

I agree with the above. For architecture like that, I'd suggest
symmetry
evergreen
neatness - topiary or the like

This page talks about colours that will go well with your brown bricks. I think that lavender might look nice.

A good sized glazed or plastic pot with a not-too-fussy plant would be fine with watering every 2 or 3 days in the height of summer (unless a real heatwave), weekly (if it hasn't rained) in spring and autumn, and barely at all in winter. Porous terracotta needs more watering; pots with inbuilt reservoirs need less.

It looks like it's in full sun, it's useful to know which way it's facing and also an idea of whereabouts you are.

Yes it's south facing and in full sun. I'm in southern England.
