Rhododendron help

I have just got around to potting up this sorry looking rhododendron that we inherited from the previous house owner. It has spent the last two years in heavy brash clay in an east facing border that gets full sun until early afternoon. I have now potted it up into ericaceous compost and moved it into a shady spot on the patio. The rootball was really compact, and all contained within the original compost so I have tried to tease it out a bit.
Is there anything else I can do to help - I was thinking maybe it needs a feed of some kind but is it the wrong time of year?
I have no experience with rhododendrons so I need all the help I can get!

I think you've done great. The compost will have fertiliser in it, I wouldn't add any more until spring.

Agreed. The key thing was to tease out the roots.

You. An also get feed especially for acid loving plants from any garden centre which’ll give it a boost next spring.
