Does anyone know what this is? Plant ID on my phone suggests Rubus family which seems right, but any more precise suggestions welcome. No thorns. Could it be a raspberry?

Yes, leaves do look like Rubus genus (the family is Rosaceae).

Raspberry is easily identifiable by the white undersides to the leaves.

Rubus fruticosus (blackberry) can reproduce without sexual reproduction, so chance mutations are passed on and become established as microspecies, so Rubus fruticosus agg. is very variable, including thornless varieties raised for garden purposes. There’s nothing in your photo to say it isn’t blackberry. Which is not the same as saying it is.

Thank you. Definitely not raspberry then as the undersides are plain old green. I'll dig it up, no idea how that arrived!
