How do i move my apple tree

I want to move my apple tree to make way for a veggie patch, in my pitifully small garden. It has only been in just under a year, after a dodgy start (got blown over, and eaten by the dog) gave us one apple last year. I dont want to kill it if i can avoid it but will sacrafice it for my veggie patch. How can i maximise its chances? Did a hole, stick some bone meal in it and transplant the tree was my idea

its probably about 5' high and ive only had it in the ground for a year so it is fairly young.

Well, you could try but you will have to be careful of the roots, which may by now have spread quite wide (i.e. a lot of annoying, endless digging). If you're going to do it, do it after you are sure there will be no more frost but still in spring. TBH I would buy a new one and plant it where you want it but only because I've moved trees of that size before and swore I wouldnt do it again!!

we have moved our apple tree several time and once was to a new garden. we just dug it up and shoved it in the ground. give it a good soaking.
