Hello, photo not great but I am trying to identify the following large leafed plant. It has silvery leaves approx 80cm long with no sign of flowers. It appeared in a sunny border around March and is still going strong. Would like more but have no clue what it is! Any help would be appreciated

My plant app says it's a Melancholy Thistle. It may be wrong though.

Thank you, there is no sign of a thistle but I will go and investigate. I did try an image search but wasn't convinced by any of the suggestions. Possibly due to my poor photography skills. I can't seem to capture either the scale of the leaves (huge) or the silvery colour.

It looks like a cardoon, or artichoke thistle, to me. You get more and more leaves then a large thistle, about 2 meters tall.

Another vote for cardoon

My first thought was cardoon.

I think cardoon as well. I like them, good architecture plant. The hearts are lovely when steamed and then peeled and dunked in garlic butter 😋

Thanks everyone, sounds like it is definitely a Cardoon thistle. Slightly worrying that I have no memory of buying/planting! Still a lovely surprise and I will certainly buy some more for next year
