Pergola Ideas

I really want to start thinking about a pergola for the bottom of my garden. I'm thinking of getting a large squared off area in the corner and laying composite decking.

Are there pergolas with detachable sides and roof? I like the idea of it open but wouldn't mind it having the exposed sides closed off (heavy canvas?) if it's a little windy?

Do such things exist?

You can easily make that with an outdoor use curtain hanging from the pergola. The roof is harder if you are planning to have plants climbing the pergola, but can also be done. You'd basically have two rails and a canvas which slides along them.

Thanks. Can't picture this on the actual fixing though.

I was thinking of buying a pergola now that the summer is tapering off - hoping to grab one in the sale.

Depending on the size, the rails could be poles that drop into u shaped brackets just like a curtain pole, then you can easily pack them away in the winter. Like a roller blind.

I've just had one built. Might not be to everyone's taste but it does have slats down one side to add shade / less wind.
I'm planning on attaching one of these as well.
