Best way to clear this

Just moved to a new house and there's a very overgrown gravel area at the front which I will need to clear.

Never gardened in my life, so any tips on the most efficient way to clear these weeds would be very appreciated. I assume I just pull the big ones by hand and then use weed killer on the smaller growth, but I'm wondering if there's a better way as the coverage is quite extensive.

A neighbour suggested using a burner but a lot of the weeds are against the walls so that won't work. TIA

That big one looks like willow herb which has shallow roots and and be pulled out easily. For the smaller ones round up will work. Check if there’s a membrane under the stone but even with a membrane the weeds can grow through it so you end up spraying or pulling anyway. After you spray it should be easy enough to stay on top of it. Growth is reducing now anyway

First of all, dig down in a corner somewhere to check there is a membrane, hopefully there is!
If so, you should be able to pull up most of them as they will have shallow routes and growing in what ever gets washed into the gravel. After that, boiling water works as well as anything else, unless you have a huge drive.

I would (and do!) hand-pull weeds from gravel over membrane, as weedkiller results in creating more growing matter for more weeds as the top-growth rots down.

Just pull slowly so you don't snap the top-growth off and leave the roots.

Thanks for the suggestions, sounds pretty straightforward which is a relief!

If you want to avoid toxic chemicals, pull the large ones and use a hoe on the smaller ones.
