Any ideas? It's a perennial with quite fleshy leaves which grow upright and quite red initially. It never does very well and always ends up looking sad and eaten. I bought it a few years ago but cannot remember what it is for the life of me. It doesn't flower and I'm wondering if it should but I'm not looking after it well. Any ideas?

It looks like a bulb... it almost looks like an agapanthus. If it's only recently come up it might be a nerine.

There are other ornamental bulbs that sprout later in the summer though.

@AtomHeartMotherOfGod I think it must be a bulb but the leaves are much thicker and fleshier than an agapanthus or nerine.

My first thought was Eucomis but the leaves are too long. Red variety of Cordyline australis (cabbage palm)? Phormium? Astelia?

@dubyalass I think you have it with eucomis. Definitely not cordyline or phormium - it's much fleshier, juicier (!) leaves but never had a flower. Now to google why isn't my eucomis flowering 😀
