Plant or weed?

To my eyes it's clearly a weed. My husband thinks it's a plant

Anyone able to identify it for me please?

Possibly horseweed? (Different from horsetail).

You can both be right. It is clearly a plant. If you don’t want it there, to you it is a weed.

There is no defined separate group of plants called “weeds”, it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

If it is horseweed (and I’m not sure it is) then it’s a very close relative of Mexican fleabane. Erigeron canadensis cf Erigeron karwinskiana.
