Could anyone please help to identify the plant pictured below? We bought it today (in the house plant section) and have just realised we don’t know what it is and it has no label on it…very much our first time buying house plants 😎.

What is this plant?

I think it is a bird of paradise. They can get to about 2m tall!

Maybe banana plant??

@Geneticsbunny thank you! 2 metres tall is a surprise 😂 but at least we know what it is.

Yes bird of paradise. I have a few. Very slow growing. Pretty shape though!

If you have an iPhone, take a photo of it and then press the i symbol under the photo and if it says look up plant, press that and then it comes up with possible plants.

There are several Plant ID apps. Very useful when you're plant shopping.

@lostparcel Thanks! I didn’t know about this - very useful.

@lostparcel Thanks! I didn’t know about this - very useful.

Bear in mind it’s only “possible plants”, a starting point for further research. All plant apps can get it badly wrong. Someone on another thread today said an app identified their violas as violets, a trivial mistake compared to some I’ve seen
