Can anyone identify this plant please?

Might be a long shot. I bought it a few years ago and it was delivered as just a branch. Been neglecting the garden but I've fed it and now it's growing leaves.

Wild guess - Hibiscus. Going largely from the smoothness, colour, and the bark

I agree with PP, it's Hibiscus.

Thank you, that is what I thought it was but my borders have been a jungle so couldn't be sure, do you think it's got a chance of surviving and growing properly going by this?

It looks very healthy, keep it well watered (if it ever stops raining) and it will be fine.

I suspect, if your garden has been a jungle (as you say) it wasn't getting enough light to grow before, but it looks happy now.
