Just being a bit nosey really.

Plums this year have been awful, cherries a bit better than plums.

Last year got huge bowlfuls of plums. This year hardly any. I don't think it is a biannual tree because it has fruited consistently each year until this one.

Disappointing because this year had a plan to deal with the excess !

I think it is a bad year for plums, but keen to know what anyone else thinks.

Good for gooseberries and blackcurrants. And local blackberries. Apple tree filled to bursting. Cherry rubbish every year-may cut it down. Pear looking poor this year. Raspberries not bad. Few strawberry plants crap.

We have a cherry plum that is laden with fruit this year. On the other hand we had a very poor year for cherries. Most of the apples and pears look okay, though the Bramley apples haven't done as well as usual.

It's been a mixed bag weather-wise with hot and dry followed by cold and wet and there was that very cold spell in spring too.

ChrisPPancake · 07/08/2023 14:22

Blackberries have been spectacular here, but early though? I'm sure as a child I remember picking blackberries in October but this lot will be well over by then!
Strawbs were good initially but although the plants are looking healthy there are v few flowers. Raspberries just starting which is later than last year.
I didn't manage to eat a single cherry off our tree this year - there was loads of blossom, then green, yellow and then all gone! Didn't see a ripe one but clearly the birds did.
Toms are later too and seem to be taking an age to ripen.

We had our first bowl of blackberries a fortnight ago - feels bonkers really, as I was also collecting them in October a couple of years ago! I want to thin my patch bramble takeover so this suits quite well though.

ChaoticCrumble · 07/08/2023 15:15

We've got an old plum tree that I don't know much about - there are plums in it, but looks like they're getting eaten by things before they'll be ripe enough for me.

Tayberry fruited early and is all done now until next year. Strawberries were pretty rubbish. Alpine strawberries are still going.

Tomatoes are ripening very slowly one by one.

Cape gooseberries still seem miles off.

Strawbs were good initially but although the plants are looking healthy there are v few flowers. Strawberries are over now surely? Unless there are autumn varieties I don’t know about.

Blackberries really good, as were raspberries and tayberries. Apples too soon to tell.

Our old Victoria plum is so heavy with fruit that one of the branches has snapped off. Never had it so heavy with fruit. Currants have been poor. No pears on tree I planted five years ago but all the ancient apple trees are loaded.

Neverknowinglysensible · 08/08/2023 19:57

It’s a bit mixed results here. Pear tree is absolutely loaded. Cooking apple tree has its usual about 3 fruits. Espalier apple is not as good as usual.

ChrisPPancake · 09/08/2023 19:40

@MereDintofPandiculation I definitely had them well into August last year. Can't remember what variety they are. They've not been anywhere near as bountiful this year but there's a few ripening now.

@MereDintofPandiculation I have some strawberry plants raised from seed since January that are just hitting their stride right now and I expect them to keep producing until the end of the warm weather 😀
But they are more of an alpine type - Fresca F1.

Mamanchien · 10/08/2023 11:32

I think the only strawberries you can raise from seed are alpine types anyway, aren't they? Which makes my last sentence redundant, if so. Sorry!
