I noticed a pile of compost next to one of my pots an on taking a closer look there is an egg buried in the pot. I covered it with more compost and left it. What happens next 😯

A snake egg or more chicken type egg?

I think foxes bury hens eggs for safe keeping.

If it's a chicken/bird egg then I'd say it's squirrels, rats or foxes. They "store" them in flower pots - I get them occasionally, the first time I found one it really perplexed me!

Same colour as a chicken egg shell. We do get foxes in our garden

Yes, foxes. My mum gets eggs quite often in her pots. The clue that they were stashed rather than laid was the date stamp on the shells.

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn Ah! Thank you, I will check!

We've had eggs in the garden from the local foxes, and also potatoes. No idea where they get them from 😁

Foxes love eggs. Especially when they have been nicely ripened in your pots !
