They self seeded on our steps, and everyone asks me what they are and I've no idea!
Please put a few old ladies out of their misery!

Ah they are just lovely !!!

Campanula.

It's the low growing variety, I can't remember the name of it (the variety that is) but someone here will know.

They are pretty, aren't they? They are seeeding themselves in many cracks in the junctions of the pavement and buildings down my road. As no one seems to be pulling them out, I'm assuming it'll be OK to leave them growing for a few years here.

I have a 'normal' campanula and I love it! Who'd have thought they're the same.

Possibly a good reason for the lack of memory - I think it’s Campanula portenschlagiana Grin

I have them all over my terrace - they are super pretty but they are also a thug and once they take hold, impossible to get rid of. One that should come with a warning imo. They self seed everywhere and grow in the smallest crack.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/07/2023 14:18

There are lots of types of campanulas so we may be imagining different things by 'normal'!
The low ones are lovely in nooks like your steps but don't let them into a border or rockery as they're liable to take over. Though I did once have a golden leafed one which was nothing like as vigorous.

Weeds in my opinion, they are pretty but take over

The cracks in my paving have Campanula rotundifolia aka harebell. That’s really pretty as a paving “intruder”
