Help!!! Bare root hostas... What do I do?

Just received 40 bare root Hostas... (Gardening express offer, thought it was worth a punt !) What do I do now? So e look like they have a bit of green growth, others are literally a bag of brown dead looking roots.... Soak in water and plant? Can they go straight in the ground (preferred option!), Should I wait until a different time of year??? I have never bothered with hostas as they all get eaten by slugs in my previous garden but thought it was worth a try as planting up a woodland area...

Were these the £10 offer?
I bought them too, haven’t yet received them. I was worried about how they would arrive.

Sorry no advice, but I’m following!

Yes that's the one @Notthecarwashagain ! I figured even if I only got 2 or 3 to survive it would be worth it!

I bought some bare root hostas off gardening express, put them in pots of compost in the green house and gave them a good water. They've grown loads really quickly - I'm hoping to plant out in a few weeks when they are a little larger (but mainly because I'll forget to water them so they need a decent root structure first)

Ok maybe I'll do this first, although dont have a greenhouse... Were some of yours just crappy looking brown things?

Hi just wanted to post a little update on this. I ended up putting most of the bare roots directly into ground, with about 10 in pots.

Pleased to say they're almost all doing great and putting in lots of growth already! About 30 out of the 40 look like they're ok so far! I'm really pleased as was a £10 gamble.

They haven't been chewed by slugs yet but I expect that will come !
