How to kill ivy?

I’ve tried googling but I’m not getting the right answers I don’t think. My neighbours don’t use their garden so it’s very very overgrown. There’s a patch where the out of control ivy is growing over to our side and I want to kill it. All the products I can find online say you have to put them at the root but I can’t access the root. Is there something I can spray on this side/over the fence that will kill it off. Neighbours won’t mind, they like us to strim and cut what we can in their garden to stop it being too out of control anyway. But what do I need to buy?

You could try glyphosate, but you’d have to give the leaves a battering so the waxy surface wouldn’t prevent it being taken up. It’s a systemic, meaning it’s taken into the plant itself and then operates by disrupting its growth patterns. Takes up to 3 weeks to show effects.

If your neighbours won't mind, can't you ask to go round and cut off the main trunk?

It's be far the easiest way and doesn't involve chemicals etc.

And then drill a hole in it and shove glyphosate down it (if it's as tenacious as my ivy).

I agree with this approach but I have done this maybe 4x now with the ivy in my garden and it just grows back unless I also weedkiller it.
