Bird tables / feeders - advice please

A robin redbreast and other birds have started appearing in our garden lately and I'd love to feed them. But what do I get?

We do get a lot of squirrels and the odd cat.

I'd like to be able to put kitchen scraps out as well as nuts/seeds etc.

DD1 made one of those fat balls with nuts & raisins in last year - we hung it on the shed but it went untouched!

It's a smallish garden with not a lot of options in terms of where to put a table/feeder. There's no spare soil I could sink anything into so it'd probably have to stand on the decking/patio - won't it just blow over?

Seems like there are a heck of a lot of options out there - and pitfalls?
