Tree for garden space

Hi,

I'm hoping someone may have more knowledge that I do on trees.

We have a space in the garden that's south west facing and protected from most wind by the fence and garage wall. What tree could I put here? Looking for something that's grafted so it's not too big, maybe 6-8ft for some privacy.

Any ideas from anyone please?

Thank you 😊

We have espalier apple trees along our fence. Look lovely. Or maybe a small crabapple?

How about Staghorn Sumac? It's relatively slow growing, has lovely furry cones and the colour change around autumn is incredible.

Amelanchier lamarckii has flowers in spring, ornamental fruit in summer and fiery foliage in autumn
Amelanchier lamarckii or juneberry is a well-branched, bushy, small tree that’s a little reminiscent of a flowering cherry or crab apple. Pure white flowers open in spring among the coppery young foliage, creating a blizzard of early bloom. They are followed later by berries which are always appreciated by birds. And finally there’s fiery autumn leaf colour. Three different seasons of interest from one fine small garden tree. 5m (16½ft). H7.

@Talipesmum I have thought about a crabapple tree. Do you have any photos of your espaliers?

@lizziebuck I'll take a look thank you!

I don't know why I'm nervous to plant a tree, sounds stupid but a tree of this height won't cause any issues as long as it's planted deep enough will it?

Other option is grafted silver birch (if they excuse) or a potted fig tree

Since it’s sheltered, I might be thinking about a suitable sized Acer.

Here’s a couple of our espalier apple trees - you put wires up along the fence and train the branches to grow flattish. Ours isn’t at all tidy and geometric looking but it’s v nice!
