I planted some of these this year for the first time to hang on our fence. I followed the retailer's advice regarding plants (one kind of flower per bag, recommended plants petunias, begonias, fuschias, trailing geraniums etc) and planting (compost, water saving granules and fertiliser added).
They were all looking pretty good up until we went away for a night during the hot weather and DS neglected to water them. Now the petunias and some lobelia I planted are looking terrible and half dead. Can this really be from one missed watering? I don't know whether to remove the plants and plant something else in the bags, is it too late in the year now? Anyone know what would be good to plant now?
The bags that have worked the best have been petunias (while they lasted!), begonias, trailing geraniums, fuschias and strawberries. I think I will stick to these minus the petunias next year. The fuschias are my absolute favourite but this might be because their bag is in a shadier position so they haven't suffered from drying out.
Has anyone else had success with flower bags? I'd love to hear your tips and see your photos.
