This has come up under a rose and lavender, and I’m wondering if it will spread fairly quickly or if/how I can propagate it?

I’ve tried a couple of low growing ground cover plants in the past without much success, so I’ll be pleased if I can leave this one to do the work for me!

Not an expert but it looks like a morning glory to me.

Or bindweed.

Bindweed.... you don't need to propagate it. Turn your back and it will take over your garden!!

Quinque · 24/06/2023 17:43

It's convolvulus a prettier sort of bindweed. White bindweed is impossible to eradicate and wraps itself around everything. I'm not sure whether convolvulus is as bad. It will probably propagate itself and won't stay low growing for long.
Geraniums are good ground cover with roses and are pretty easy.

It is field bindweed - Convolvulus arvensis. It will spread outwards, low to the ground, but can be a nuisance just as much as the normal bindweed. Up to you if you want to keep it, but don’t let it get out of control.

With good reason, it’s in the same family. Convulvulus arvensis, Field bindweed. The flowers are fragrant

It’s not as vigorous as the big climbing bindweeds, Calystegia sp.

PureBlackVoid · 24/06/2023 18:09

Oh that’s a shame, I’ve just read it can damage other plants if not controlled (does ‘controlled’ mean removed or just kept at a minimum?)

The flowers are so pretty.

“Controlled” means kept where you want and not allowed to spread at random.

Yes, it is pretty. And have you smelt the flower? Lovely fragrance, one of my childhood memories
